There’s a lot of information flying around about the cloud, mobile devices in the workplace, the behavior of mobile users and how all of this affects modern organizations. More and more of this information is being visualized, either in infographics, animations or videos, making it quicker and easier to consume. But finding all of this content can be time consuming. So we’ve had a look around for you, and put together our top six bits of content from the last few weeks.
The Move to Open Source
Could open source software be the future of the cloud? In the past, worries about the quality of community-built software may have put off enterprise or other business users. Now, the quality of software has improved massively and, as the infographic below shows, is now the main factor in choosing open source software over a commercial solution. By contrast, in 2012 the main reason was freedom from vendor lock-in. To find out the other reasons why organizations are moving to open source software, check out this infographic from North Bridge and Black Duck.
Making Sure Mobility’s Secure
More devices than ever are entering the workplace – it is estimated that 90% of companies will allow an employee’s own equipment in the office by 2014. Despite this, the mobile security situation is swiftly deteriorating, with a 400% increase in Android malware in 2012 alone. Coping with this situation means creating intelligent IT policies and educating users to improve their behaviour. A Silver Lining
Is the cloud really worth it? This new Autodesk infographic certainly seems suggest it is. Small businesses can save on IT labor costs (50%) and on energy use in the workplace (up to 90% on current spending). So, how much does cloud cost, which services are businesses buying, and how do they benefit?
The Rise and Rise of Video
Video’s pretty big these days, and mobile video is growing the fastest of all: it is expected to account for 66% of all worldwide mobile data traffic by 2017. Not only that, but the Überflip infographic below also claims that 87% of US marketers use video for their content marketing, more than any other type of online content, and spending on video ads is excepted to grow by over $2 billion in the next two years. Looks like video is only going to get bigger, so be prepared to handle big increases in data consumption:
